So Google has unveiled a brand new search algorithm for all their search results. What does this mean for you? What exactly is it? How does it affect your SEO work and Google rankings?
Nicknamed Hummingbird, the new upgrade affects around 90% of all Google searches. It is the first upgrade to have a major effect on rankings in the last three years. Focusing on the end user’s experience and ease of searching, Hummingbird is a big change to Google’s previous focus on the indexing of sites.
With the shift into mobile Googling on a variety of devices, Hummingbird allows users to speak to Google and get a more personal response. In the unveiling, this new concept was shown in the format of a woman asking Google through a voice search for images of the Eiffel Tower and on the discovery of the perfect image, asking how tall it is. Google dutifully told her the answer. Hummingbird aims to bring Google to a more interactive, intelligent service for its users. It also helps to answer longer questions that Google previously struggled with.
So what does this mean for all those long hours put into your SEO? Nobody’s sure! Despite being in use for over a month now, its long-term effects on SEO and content writing are yet to be seen. One thing’s for sure though, with a focus on voice searching, the world of SEO is set to drastically change in the coming months. Watch this space!
